The 40mm Oyster case is crafted from Rolex's combination of Oystersteel and 18ct yellow gold, known as Yellow Rolesor. It is fitted with an 18ct yellow gold fixed bezel featuring the Daytona's characteristic engraved tachymetric scale, designed for measuring average speeds over a given distance.
The black dial provides a striking contrast against the yellow gold detailing, featuring three chronograph counters, applied hour markers and Rolex's signature Oyster styling. Chronograph pushers positioned either side of the winding crown reinforce the Daytona's motorsport-inspired design.
At the heart of the watch is the Rolex calibre 4130, an automatic chronograph movement developed and manufactured by Rolex. Offering approximately 72 hours of power reserve, the calibre 4130 became renowned for its efficient construction and reliability and powered this generation of the Daytona for many years.
Completing the watch is the Rolex Oyster bracelet in stainless steel and 18ct yellow gold, giving the Daytona its distinctive combination of sporting character and precious-metal detailing.
Introduced as the successor to reference 116523, the 116503 continued the long-established two-tone Daytona design while introducing an updated bezel with revised tachymeter markings.
